A 44-year-old apparently racist man in Ormond Beach, Florida was charged with a hate crime during a bar fight where he was cited saying “this bar is not for Blacks,” before hitting an African-Amercian man upside the head with a beer bottle.

Reports The Daytona Beach News-Journal:

Jason Cuellar, 44, was charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm and two counts of battery. He was being held Monday at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $21,000 bail, records show.

Deputies said that on Friday at 10 p.m. Kenneth Hodge, 24, of Daytona Beach, walked into the Hideout Lounge at 1120 Derbyshire Road and stood at the bar next to Cuellar.

Cuellar then told Hodge “this bar is not for blacks,” reports states.

Hodge ignored Cuellar but Cuellar grabbed a beer bottle and hit Hodge on the top of the head, cutting him, according to a Volusia County sheriff’s report.

Hodge wrestled Cuellar to the ground but Cuellar was able to escape Hodge, reports state.

Two other patrons at the bar, who witnessed what Cuellar did, tried to stop Cuellar from getting away but Cuellar pepper-sprayed them in the eyes, investigators said.

Seeing that Hodge was targeted but aided by other patrons, it may be a safe assumption to say that no one agreed with Cuellar.
