Russell Simmons is an icon in Hip-Hop circles, but this will certainly elicit side-eyes. Uncle Rush is teaming with Worldstar Hip Hop to develop projects for television.

Reports the Hollywood Reporter:

Russell Simmons‘ All Def Digital has formed an exclusive partnership with online video site World Star Hip Hop to develop projects for television, the companies announced Thursday.

Under the new partnership, the two companies will provide resources toward the development of new television programming for cable and subscription services and music programming for cable and broadcast.

The pact builds on a preexisting relationship between ADD and World Star Hip Hop that includes a feature film currently in development with Paramount Pictures through Def Pictures. The companies have also teamed up on comedy series World Star Headquarters that will premiere on ADD’s YouTube channel and on the World Star Hip Hop website.

Worldstar has delved into content with substance—for example, they dropped a good doc on violence in Chicago. However, the site is still most recognizable, and profits off of, some of the basest, stereotypical and lowest common denominator of content, usually fights in the hood.

Coon Fight TV on the way? Sorry, couldn’t resist.
