Nelly is either brave or foolish, but he certainly got paid. The St. Louis rapper took a trip to Iraq to perform for a charity that raises money for Kurdish soldiers who are fighting ISIS

Reports the New York Daily News:

In a first for an American artist, “Hot in Herre” rapper Nelly took to the stage Friday for a concert in Iraq to support ethnic Kurds.

Prior to taking the stage, the “Country Grammar” rapper was welcomed to the Kurdistan region by Erbil Gov. Nawzad Hadi.

Joined by fellow rapper Ali, Nelly then performed a concert at an annual soccer tournament – but was greeted mostly by empty seats.

Those who attended the benefit concert reportedly cheered the rapper by waving Iraqi flags — and at least one fan in Villa reported that concertgoers were enthralled. “The Kurds went crazy!”

The concert was reportedly to raise money for soldiers fighting ISIS aka ISIL aka the Islamist State. However, there is controversy because word is Nelly was getting paid six figures to performs his hits in Iraq.

“I’m honored this country has paid attention to Nelly,” said the rapper, who made no mention of his performance on Instagram or Twitter, in a local news report. Check out footage of the performance below.
