DJ Traci Steele is making her mark on the Atlanta radio scene with her one of a kind style and skill.

With the ability to host, spin and scratch, this Bronx New York native brought something so fresh to the table that it caught the eye of Musiq Soulchild who hired her to be his official DJ.

In part 1 of our interview, this 95.5 The Beat DJ sat down with HipHopWired to give us an introduction to the woman behind the turntables.

Watch below as she details her journey from DJing at Hot 107.9 in Virginia to making a move to ATL and landing at her current radio home.

Moving past her beginnings, Steele speaks on the stipulations that come with being a female DJ. According to this master of the spin, some men are thrown off by her looks and prejudge her until she can earn their respect. She says that respect however is not what helped her land a position as Musiq Soulchild’s official DJ, instead it was an ability to impress the musician with her raw talent.

In addition to working with Musiq, Steele is a proud part of the 95.5 The Beat family. Although her on-air shift varies, she says she’s usually on Saturdays from 12 to 5 and Sundays from 5 to 8. In addition to her air time, she rocks parties and gigs at various clubs around Atlanta. Steele also made sure to mention that her station is “underrated” in comparison to big name stations in the area and as the only Black radio personality at The Beat, she says it’s her job to hold it down.

Before finishing up her interview with HipHopWired.com, Steele also made sure to mention her previous work in mixtapes. While she often doesn’t have time to put out a mixtape series, she reflects on her time DJing at the Essence Fest when her tape sold in seconds. If she were to put out a recent tape she promises to make it diverse with tracks from Ludacris, Lady Gaga and sleet of others. She also mentions that she her favorite genre of music to DJ is reggae because of her Jamaican roots.Lastly Traci sends out some personal shoutouts and let’s all her fans know where to find her TraciSteele.com and on Twitter @DJTraciSteele.
