Hampton University is making headlines after receiving $5.3 mill from the federal government.

The historically Black institution was given $5.3 mill in grants by the U.S. Department of Education through their Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program and the Historically Black Graduate Institutions Program.

The money will be used to support and enhance HU’s academic programs and research facilities.

The President of Hampton University Dr. William R. Harvey released a statement on the school’s latest endeavor saying,

“Hampton University will use these grants to continue our mission of educating students to be scholars and leaders locally, nationally and internationally. I commend President Obama’s commitment to higher education and Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”

As previously reported President Obama was the speaker for the University’s  140 commencement exercise on May 9, 2010.
Congrats to my alma mater.
