The mother of Hip-Hop legend Tupac Shakur is expressing gratitude to the Library of Congress now that they’ve announced plans to honor her son.

As previously reported Tupac’s “Dear Mama” is set to be one of just 25 songs added to the National Recording Registry to be preserved as a “national treasure.”

Since then the late rapper’s mother Afeni Shakur has released a statement saying that she’s “touched” by the honor especially since the song was made to pay tribute to mothers.

“I’m incredibly touched. It could have been any song, but I’m honored they chose Dear Mama in particular. It is a song that spoke not just to me, but every mother that has been in that situation, and there have been millions of us. Tupac recognized our struggle, and he is still our hero.”

Afeni recently held the second annual  Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation birthday celebration to honor her late son.
