Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton will serve 23 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty in the 2011 murder of Julian Jones, a 22-year-old mother of four.

According to WSBTV.com, Crittenton, a star guard for Georgia Tech and eventual first round draft pick, accepted a plea deal. He was said to be remorseful, making a “tearful apology” to the Jones family for the accidental shooting.

Per previous reports, Crittenton, an alleged gang member, had his sights on a man in a rival gang who had allegedly stolen from him days before. He was the triggerman in a drive-by shooting, with his cousin Douglas Gamble in the driver’s seat.

Gamble was sentenced to three years in prison.

Prior to sentencing, Crittenton was released from jail on a $230K bond, but was placed back in custody January 2014 after he allegedly conspired to deal cocaine and marijuana months before he was indicted for the shooting.

Life comes at you fast.
