Veteran rapper Nas has never been one to shy away from sensitive cultural issues within his music, and as been one of the few mainstream artists to do so. The Queensbridge wordsmith wrote a lengthy post on Instagram discussing race in America and the possibility of equality.

Nas wrote the Instagram post on Monday, and the timing of his words couldn’t have been more in line with current events around the country. From the Freddie Gray situation to the Mother Emanuel AME church shooting, Black Americans have been enduring quite the burden. Nas doesn’t reveal what inspired his words, but they’re definitely full of passion and rhetorical reasoning.

“This is BIGGER than BLACK and WHITE. This is about America selling a false dream. Now we’ve obviously progressed since the inception of this nation but we took our eye off the ball and it feels as though things are moving backwards,” wrote Nas.
