After 45 years, Maria is leaving Sesame Street. Emmy Award winning actress Sonia Manzano announced that she would be walking away from the role at the American Library Association’s Annual Conference.

“After 45 years on Sesame Street, @SoniaMManzano will no longer appear on the next season,” tweeted American Libraries on Monday.

Manzano began her role on Sesame Street in 1971. The Puerto Rican actress won 15 Emmy Awards for her writing on the children’s show and was nominated for two Emmys for her acting.

Also, she was raised in The Boogie Down Bronx. Best of luck in all your future endeavors Mrs. Manzano.
