The city of Baltimore is under alert after a deadly shooting incident near the University of Maryland-Baltimore campus left three people dead and one injured. Police are warning students in the area to use caution, although the motive for the shooting is yet unknown.

According to a report from NBC News, the quadruple shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night near the campus on West Fayette Street. UMB police say two light colored vans pulled over at a corner and opened fired on a corner at several people.

In the end of the carnage, one male was pronounced dead at the scene while two other victims, a male and female,  died from their injuries. The fourth shooting victim, a woman, was shot in the buttocks and walked into a local emergency room for treatment.

“A male and female were both transported to an area hospital where despite medical attempts, they succumbed to their injuries,” Detective Rashawn K. Strong of Baltimore Police Department said in a statement. “The second male was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

A fourth victim walked in to a local hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the buttock. She was listed in stable condition.

University of Maryland police urged people to “use caution in the area.”

The Baltimore Sun added that last night’s shooting was the second in under five days in that area of Baltimore. On July 2, a person driving on the same block was hit by bullets from a passing vehicle.
