You may have recently spotted Rhymesfest in ads for Kenneth Cole. The veteran Chicago MC’s come up has led to being featured in the brand’s The Courageous Class campaign. Says Kenneth Cole: Che “Rhymefest” Smith is a humanitarian hip-hop artist, writer, activist, political organizer, and teacher. In 2005, Rhymefest won a Grammy for co-writing the song “Jesus Walks” along with Kanye West. In 2006, he released his critically acclaimed “Blue Collar” album on Clive Davis’s J Records. Through his music, Che has broken glass ceilings and negative stereotypes about hip-hop. In 2013, Che’s wife, Donnie Smith, founded Donda’s House, a non-profit premium arts program that teaches people 15-24 years old health and wellness techniques, studio etiquette, and creative writing. Most recently, Rhymefest won a Critics’ Choice award, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar for his work on the song “Glory” along with John Legend and Common. Currently the subject of a BreakThru Films documentary, In My Father’s House, which explores fatherhood, homelessness, and family, Che and his story can be seen around the country starting on October 9, 2015 in select AMC Theaters. Kenneth Cole couldn’t have picked a worthier subject. “The Courageous Class needs a versatile wardrobe that provides security in the face of the unknown,” Kenneth Cole told Marie Claire of the fall 2015 collection that is portrayed as an “Urban Uniform.” Other notables featured in the Courageous Class campaign include model Andreja Pejić and pro surfer turned activist Jon Rose.
