Ta-Nehisi Coates‘ 2015 has been epic, and there isn’t an ounce of hyperbole in that statement. The renowned author is the recipient of a MacArthur “Genius Grant.”
The 24 winners of the grants were announced yesterday, and Coates will receive a strings-free $625,000 off the strength of being great at what he does, as per the MacArthur Fellows foundation.
Those days as a struggling writer are long behind him.
This year, Coates published his latest book, Between The World And Me, to critical acclaim and an endorsement from the great Toni Morrison (and a nod from Jay Z). More recently, Marvel announced that he will be writing a new Black Panther series.
Salute that man.
Lastly, Coates acknowledgment of his achievement on Twitter is also epic.
