Although he may seem like Hollywood’s go-to action star at the moment, times weren’t always glamour and glitz for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The former WWE champion turned Fast & Furious pillar block was once a promising NFL prospect at one of the most prestigious colleges at the time when injury rocked his world and forced him to explore other career avenues.

At 23-years-old and very little real-life experience under his belt, Johnson, now 43, says he fell into a deep depression.

“I remember at that time…the only thing I wanted to was clean the walls,” he revealed to the cameras of OWN network’s “Oprah’s Master Class” series. “I found that, with depression, one of the most important things you could realize is that you’re not alone. You’re not the first to go through it; you’re not going to be the last to go through it … I wish I had someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], ‘Hey, it’s gonna be OK. It’ll be OK.'”

Today, Johnson already has three movies lined up for the next two years, stars in his own HBO series Ballers (where he happens to play a retired pro athlete attempting to make sense of life after pro football) and is expecting a daughter with his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Hashian. Life may be good at the moment but now Johnson is relaying the knowledge he learned during those low periods to those who may not be as fortunate at the present time.

“You just gotta remember…hold on to that fundamental quality of faith,” he said with his A-list smile. “Have faith that on the other side of your pain is something good.”

Watch Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson drop jewels in the video below and nudge anyone you may know in need of the information into this direction.
