In a whirlwind two days, three men are now in custody after the Monday night shooting that took place at a Black Lives Matter protest in Minneapolis. Of the three men being held, two of the suspects turned themselves in and the activists say they also uncovered a plot to disrupt the protest as well.

As has been reported, five Black Lives Matter protesters gathered near the Minneapolis Police Department’s Fourth Precinct were allegedly shot by a group of masked white supremacists. A report from the New York Times details that one suspect, a 23-year-old white man, was found by authorities while two other white men, 26 and 21 respectively, turned themselves in.

From the Times:

The police said that they had arrested a 23-year-old white man, and that two other white men, ages 21 and 26, turned themselves in on Tuesday afternoon. A 32-year-old Hispanic had been detained and questioned but was released when the police determined that he was not involved in the Monday night shooting, they said.

Activists remained critical of the police, saying that officers did not properly respond during the shooting and that they had lost trust in the department.

“Despite earlier statements from police about the impending threat from white supremacists, the police instead Maced citizen journalists and peaceful protesters” after the shooting, Miski Noor, an organizer with Black Lives Matter Minneapolis, said during a brief news conference on Tuesday. “They made disparaging comments to those at the protests instead of taking the threat seriously. We reiterate that we have zero faith in this Police Department’s desire to keep our community safe.”

To make matter more curious, online chatter from white supremacists has been discovered, including an email chain discussing strategies and the times of the protests.

Raw Story reports that the white supremacists who shot at the protesters were allegedly attacked by a Black Lives Matter protester just ahead of the shooting. This information has not been officially confirmed.

A video released by the Black Lives Matter Minneapolis group shows a pair of white supremacists using racist and violent language as they headed to the Fourth Precinct last week. It isn’t known if they were the men involved in the shooting, but one of them flashed a gun in the clip.

As this story develops, we will return with updates.
