Mark Jackson used to coach Steph Curry and was a deft point guard himself, but a comment he dropped during yesterday’s Cavaliers vs. Warriors has many shaking their head in disgust. According to Jackson, Chef Curry is “hurting” basketball since he hits all those three point shots. Reports Yahoo Sports: Curry’s old coach with the Warriors, ABC analyst Mark Jackson, however, declared during the network’s telecast of Friday’s game that the sharpshooting guard is “hurting” the sport of basketball. “Understand what I’m saying when I say this. He’s hurting the game,” Jackson said. “And what I mean by that is that I go into these high school gyms, I watch these kids, and the first thing they do is they run to the 3-point line. You are not Steph Curry. Work on the other aspects of the game.” Curry chuckled at Jackson’s comments but also seemed confused by them. “I have to talk to him,” Curry told Yahoo Sports. “I don’t know what he means by that. If you can shoot, shoot. If you can’t, stop.” Warriors center Andrew Bogut, who also played under Jackson, didn’t appreciate his former coach’s remarks. “Anything he says, you can take that with a grain of salt,” Bogut said. “And you can quote me on that.” We get what Jackson meant—too many players are chucking treys instead of say, making a lay up or a good entry pass. Nevertheless, c’mon fam, really? Did Michael Jordan hurt the game of basketball with the legion of players who mimicked his drives to the basket, and dunks. Did Allen Iverson hurt the game when everyone hijacked his crossover (also, give respect to Tim Hardaway’s)? Did the Fab 5 ruin the game with long shorts and black socks (and daring to let freshman start)? Criticism is cool, but criticism for criticism’s sake is pointless. Also, trust that many kids are working on their handle and passing because of Mr. Curry, too. By the way, Curry’s just been named the AP’s Athlete of the Year. Is basketball doomed.
