Craig Sager, the longtime NBA On TNT sideline reporter, has been battling leukemia for much of the past two years and was thought to have defeated the disease. Doctors told Sager that his leukemia is no longer in remission and that he’s been given just months to live.

Sager, best known for his zany suits and a comical love/hate relationship with San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, sat down with HBO Real Sports program and revealed the news. However, much like the Sager fans have come to love, he intends to beat back the disease and live beyond his dire prognosis, reports Deadspin.

The outlet shared a video clip of Sager’s chat with host Bernard Goldberg, and he defiantly stated he’ll be the first to live the longest after a terminal declaration.

Sports Illustrated NBA writer Ben Golliver posted a transcript of the chat via his Twitter account.

Our thoughts are with Craig Sager. Get well and come back soon, bad suits and all.
