If you’re an NFL fan, ignoring social media is becoming less and less of an option. Twitter has earned the rights to air Thursday night games during the forthcoming season.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement that 10 Thursday Night football game will be live streamed over the Internet for free.99.

Reportedly, Twitter was one of several social media platforms bidding for the rights to stream the games. There are no details as to how much money Twitter paid for the rights as of yet.

“Twitter is where live events unfold and is the right partner for the NFL as we take the latest step in serving fans around the world live NFL football,” said Goodell via a press statement. “There is a massive amount of NFL-related conversation happening on Twitter during our games and tapping into that audience, in addition to our viewers on broadcast and cable, will ensure Thursday Night Football is seen on an unprecedented number of platforms this season. This agreement also provides additional reach for those brands advertising with our broadcast partners.”

According to the NFL, also included in the deal will be in-game highlights and pre-game Periscope vids with teams and individual players.

Needless to say, cable and broadcast companies are feeling a ways, while chord cutters are surely rejoicing.
