The violent murder of rapper and French Montana protege Chinx was a shock to fans of the rising rapper, who was on the cusp of stardom. Since investigating the 2015 incident, the NYPD said that the recording artist was a target of a hit.

In a report from Fox 5 NY, a reporter from the outlet interviewed a pair of NYPD detectives who shared their theories regarding what happened that on May 17 of last year. In a photo taken from surveillance video, new details of the shooting are slowly emerging yet it appears police are still hoping the public gets involved in helping solve the case.

From Fox 5:

In an exclusive surveillance photo, you can see his Porsche leaving a closed hookah lounge very early Sunday morning, May 17, 2015. Police say the shooting did not happen on Queens Boulevard as many believed, but on Main Street at the intersection.

Lt. Hall of the 107 Precinct detective squad says when Chinx got to Queens Boulevard and Main Street, someone walked right up to the driver’s side and fired multiple shots into the car.

Contrary to what many believe, it was not a drive-by but more like an assassination. A dark-colored Altima or Mercedes followed the Porsche and stopped right behind it at the light.

Detectives say to the best of their knowledge that Chinx was not involved in drugs or crime, and have asked anyone with information to step forward. Chinx’s wife, Janelli, also hopes anyone who knows about the person who killed her husband will share what they know with police.
