Royce Da 5’9 has been considered one of the top lyricists in the game for some time and isn’t showing any signs of slimming down his creative input. The Detroit rhyme champion sat down with Ebro Darden for Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio show and discussed topics ranging from how he approaches his art, his time with Slaughterhouse to working with Eminem.

The episode of Darden’s Borough Check was released on Monday (Apr. 18) and dives into the history of Royce’s history with Eminem, and the development of the Bad Meets Evil duo he forms with Slim Shady.

Royce also gives a slice of Detroit Hip-Hop history and talks about how the scene he came from influenced his craft. And while he didn’t come out the gate as the blistering rhyme slinger he is today, Royce didn’t let the boos from crowds stop him from shining later.

Royce Da 5’9’s interview with Beats 1’s Ebro Darden can be heard in full below. Royce’s sixth and latest full-length release, Layers, dropped last week.
