Veteran Detroit MC Royce Da 5’9 has topped the Billboard charts with his solo album Layers.

It seems like the rest of the world is finding out what Hip-Hop heads have known for a long time, Royce Da 5’9 is dope.

After a five year hiatus from releasing solo material, Royce has returned and claimed his first ever #1 album. Layers debuted at the top of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart this week. Layers is his first album since 2011’s Success Is Certain. In the between time, Royce kept his name hot by releasing material as a member of Slaughterhouse [including Joe Budden, Joel Ortiz and Kxng Crooked], Bad Meets Evil [with Eminem] and PRyhme [with DJ Premier].

Royce has also gained momentum with this legendary showings in the Shady Records cyphers.

Layers has features from Rick Ross and Pusha T as well as production from Mr. Porter, Jake One, Nottz and DJ Khalil. The album knocked pop princess Rihanna’s ANTI out of the top spot. The album also debuted in the Top 10 of three additional charts including Billboard’s Rap Albums chart (#2), Independent Albums chart (#4), and the Digital Albums chart (#10).
