A group representing the affairs of Philly school students are criticizing a city police officer who they say assaulted a student in a bathroom and gave him a concussion. The Philadelphia Student Union also accused the officer in question of deleting video footage of the incident as well.

According to Philadelphia magazine, the city’s school district is examining the details of the alleged incident that took place and Benjamin Franklin High School after the union went public with its accusation. A brief video was posted to Facebook by the union, and an unedited version of the clip has also been made available.

The union says that Benjamin Franklin High School senior Brian Burney attempted to use the restroom but was without a hall pass. School officer Jeff Maciocha prevented Burney from entering the restroom. In anger, Burney, a member of the student union as well, threw an orange against the wall and Maciocha punched the boy twice, slammed him to the ground and began choking him.

A bystander caught the entire incident on a cell phone camera but was ordered by a teacher to delete the video who then took the phone and erased it herself. A spokesperson for the school district says that an investigation is still ongoing but so far seems to be siding with the school officer. The spokesperson added that Burney called Maciocha a series of racial slurs and made a threatening gesture towards him.

Thus far, the union is unrelenting in its pursuit of justice for Burney and are intending to keep the pressure on the school district and Maciocha.
