The outcry over the use and abuse of opioid prescription meds has finally reached the White House. After claiming countless lives, and allegedly that of Prince, the Barack Obama along with Macklemore tackled the subject of opioid addiction in the President’s “Weekly Address.”

Macklemore – a former addict himself – speaks on how important treatment for addiction is and how it helped him become the Grammy award winner he is today.

“Addiction is like any other disease, it doesn’t discriminate,” said Macklemore. “It doesn’t care what color you are, whether you’re a guy or a girl, rich or poor, whether you live in the inner city, a suburb, or rural America. This doesn’t just happen to other people’s kids or in some other neighborhood. It can happen to any of us.”

Added Obama, “Another way our company can help those suffering private is to make this conversation public.

Expect more from these two as they will be part of a substance abuse documentary set to air on MTV this summer.
