Dwayne Marion Stafford, the man who punched Charleston church shooter Dylan Roof in jail, is a free man now thanks to donations being made to pay his bail.

When news broke that mass murder Dylan Roof was assaulted in jail this week, many people rejoiced. But a few of those rejoicers went the extra mile to find out who did it, put money on his books and ultimately pay his bail to get out of jail.

Charleston, SC CBS affiliate Live 5 News reports:

According to court records, 25-year-old Dwayne Stafford was released Friday night.

Stafford had been in jail on charges of strong armed robbery, assault and lying to police.

Bond was set at more than $100,000 for Stafford’s charges.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has “no control” on how or who posts bond for incarcerated inmates, Maj. Eric Watson said Friday night of Stafford’s release on bond.

Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office say Stafford assaulted Roof Thursday morning at the detention center; Roof and his attorneys are not pressing charges in the jail assault.

Stafford attacked Roof while his escort left his post to deliver toilet paper. Since everybody in the jail knows that Roof is the coward who killed nine innocent people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, he is always escorted to and from his cell when he goes out for showers and recreation. According to reports, Stafford was only able to get one good punch in.

Stafford has been in jail for more than a year on strong robbery charges. He is back out on these streets.

Do you think this was a good move?
