Colin Kaepernick‘s football jersey has become the top-selling item on NFLShop.com ever since he started protesting the national anthem. He has announced that he will be donating the proceeds to the communities supporting him.
While a few people are out there protesting Colin Kaepernick‘s protest, there are more people standing with him and his cause. What’s better is that they are putting their money where their mouth’s are.
In the past week Kaepernick, who in all fairness hadn’t had a good season since getting to the Super Bowl in 2013, has seen his jersey go from the doldrums to becoming the top seller in the league. Celebrities like J. Cole and Trey Songz were also spotted rocking his jersey on stage.
Today, Kaepernick thanked everyone for the support and announced that he would be donating his cut of the sales to the communities that are standing with him.
In an Instagram post, he said:
I want to thank everyone who has shown me love and support, it truly means a lot! I wasn’t expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of this, but it shows the people’s belief that we can achieve justice and equality for ALL! The only way I can repay you for the support is to return the favor by donating all the proceeds I receive from my jersey sales back into the communities! I believe in the people, and WE can be the change!
Kapernick has already pledged to donate $1 million of his annual salary to community organizations as well.
