More evidence of Donald Trump‘s unchecked White male privilege is coming to light. Lil Jon confirms that Trump repeatedly called him an “Uncle Tom” on set.

Lil Jon was one of the cast members of the 2013 season of Celebrity Apprentice. In one episode his team was tasked wit promoting a hair product. Jon elected himself to wear an Uncle Sam costume to promote it. Producers of the show tell The Daily Beast that when Trump heard about Jon wearing the costume he began address Jon as “Uncle Tom” on set, multiple times.

The anonymous staffers say that Jon and fellow cast member Arsenio Hall voiced their displeasure with Trump using the term. When the show’s producers approached Trump and told him that they found the term offensive, they say he acted like he didn’t know why.

Per Daily Beast:

The staffer said Trump was utterly tone-deaf to the racially charged history of the term, which is used to deride a black man deemed to be subservient to white people.

“We kept trying to explain to [Trump] that that’s not a word you can use, that it’s offensive,” another Apprentice employee told The Daily Beast. “One of the executive producers had to call him up directly to [plead with] him not to say it, and Trump was like, ‘No, that’s a saying, it’s Uncle Tom.’ There are several takes in the footage of the dailies that has him trying to figure out the difference between ‘Uncle Tom’ and Uncle Sam. He just couldn’t grasp that it was offensive… When [Trump] decides he wants to do something, that’s his way.”

Another Apprentice staffer of several years who helped intervene in the “Uncle Tom mini-crisis,” as the source dubbed it, confirmed that “multiple producers had to try to instruct him” but that “somehow none of it stuck.”

“It was not like he was saying the n-word, or anything,” the staffer continued. “But I couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t just realize he was being offensive with that particular term!”

Of course Trump saw nothing wrong with offending someone.

Jon confirmed that this happened via Twitter.

Let’s cut the BS. Trump knew exactly what he was saying. The phrase “Uncle Tom” has been around just as long as “n*gger” and we’re sure this isn’t the first time he used it. If anything, we’re more disappointed Jon didn’t “get crunk” on Trump on sight.
