Sorry X-Men fans, but it seems like Deadpool 2 just took a major step backwards.

According to GIZMODO, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed smash Deadpool just saw it’s director Tim Miller walk out the front door.

Though Miller wasn’t necessarily signed to helm the upcoming film because of his success with the first film it was always assumed he’d eventually agree to return for the second. Unfortunately, that just didn’t pan out as it’s being reported that the director and star of the Fox franchise, Ryan Reynolds, just couldn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of things and ultimately cited “creative differences,” originally reported by Deadline, as the reason for the split.

Most of the problems stem from the Miller wanting to make the film more “stylized” while Reynolds wanted to keep true to the raunchy and comedic core that made Deadpool such a beloved film.

But, per The Wrap, the straw that broke the camel’s back was Miller and Reynolds disagreeing on who’d play the highly sought after role of Cable. Tim Miller was set on casting Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler. However, Reynolds opposed the choice and eventually got the studio to back his decision.

With the enormous success that Deadpool enjoyed when it was released earlier this year we’re sure that Deadpool 2 is bound to have more than a few interested directors and with a 2018 target release date there’s more than enough time to make the right choice.

We just hope Zack Snyder doesn’t get the chance to sabotage yet another fan favorite franchise. Yeah we said it.
