The bodega chopped cheese sandwich has been a block staple for hustlers and AM party goers since the dawn of time…in the hood anyway. Now that gentrification has opened the doors for privileged white folk to enter and discover the hidden gems we’ve enjoyed for our entire lives, the bodega chopped cheese sandwich is in danger of becoming “Columbusized” and ending up on the menu item at upscale hipster spots.

Yesterday Hometown Hero debuted a short documentary on the background of the hood famous sandwich and interviewed many of the hood natives to learn what the sandwich means to them and why its become a culture food to many.

That being said if you grew up near a bodega and never had a chopped cheese, congratulations, you played yourself.
