Nelly To Host St. Louis Radio Show

Nelly, who has ventured in other entertainment fields that include acting, is now expanding his talents on-air.

The St. Louis rapper will be taking on a radio hosting gig on WHHL’S Hot 104.1 in St. Louis. Today Nelly will join the urban radio station as the afternoon drive-time host in a 3-7 p.m. slot.

He will be filling in for host Staci Static who is on maternity leave.  Executives say that the hosting gig will last for approximately a month.  As a solo host, Nelly will be introducing songs as well as conducting interviews.

Mickey Johnson, WHHL’S program director explained why he chose Nelly for the job:

“It made perfect sense for the hometown boy to do it for the short term.   I was looking for someone local and someone who had that star power.”

He also expressed that Nelly’s star power would assist the station with obtaining exclusive interviews.

“With Nelly being so plugged in to the industry – with the multiple Grammys and being a co-owner of the Bobcats – I knew it was easy for him to line up interviews,” Johnson said.

What listeners won’t hear from the “Country Grammar” superstar: News, topical issues or too much self-promotion for his upcoming “Nelly 5.0” CD.

If Nelly does hype his new singles, Johnson said it will be in “a natural way that fits within the format of the station.”

Hopefully the income from the radio gig will assist Nelly in paying back the St. Lunatics.
