FakeShoreDrive is reporting that Chicago singer Johnny P has passed away.

The news comes weeks after rumors began circulating that the singer died, which were untrue. However, FSD confirms through family members and sources that the singer has now passed away after being in a coma.

Johnny P was an emerging go-to hook singer in the mid-90s. His pitch was similar to Michael Jackson‘s lending a pop feel to tracks that he appeared on. He was introduced listeners by singing the hook to Do Or Die’s 1996 hit “Po Pimp” and heard from again on their follow-up single “Playa Like Me And You.”

He achieved more success the next year by singing the hook for Scarface and 2Pac’s classic song “Smile.”

Johnny P would release one solo album on Rap-A-Lot records, The Next, in 1998.

After that, Johnny P was virtually unheard from until he popped up on Twista’s 2005 album The Day After. Some years ago though, numerous local interviews of Johnny began circulating with him promising to drop new music. He would resurface in 2015 with a mixtape titled Sing You My Story.

In recent years, a few online videos began circulating with a man appearing to be Johnny P singing at gas stations and on the street, it was never confirmed if it was him or not.
