A Philadelphia man checked himself out of rehab and robbed a bank using a note he scribbled on his discharge papers.

NY Daily News reports that 25-year old Jamal Goodwin checked himself out of a Chester County drug and rehab center before hailing a taxi cab to the Malvern Federal Savings Bank and robbing it. Goodwin did not have a gun, but he did use a ransom note that he scribbled on his discharge papers. The note said that he had a firearm and wanted “all the money.”

Goodwin was able to pull off the heist getting $5,000. But, police caught him after he left a gym back containing $2,700 of his robbings, his wallet with ID and two sweatshirts in the back of the cab that he escaped in.

Goodwin is now being charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, and possessing an instrument of crime [i.e. the note].

From drug rehab right back to jail, life comes at you fast.

“This case is a compelling example of the overwhelming damage of addiction,” Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan told reporters. “He’s gonna get sober, but it’s gonna be behind bars. It’s a tragedy for him and his family, but we can’t have people engaging in this kind of behavior.”
