Kevin Hart is looking to blend comedy with history for a new special set to air on the History Channel.

The Black Man’s Guide To History will star both Hart and his daughter as he tells her stories of lesser known figures who don’t always get mentioned in your school books. These figures will include Matthew Henson, the first person to go to the North Pole, but did not receive the credit; Robert Smalls, a former slave who led a revolt on a Confederate warship and pretended to be the captain to evade capture; Mae Jemison, the first black female astronaut; and Henry “Box” Brown, a slave who mailed himself to a free state in a box.

Hart was inspired to create the show when his daughter expressed frustration after watching 12 Years A Slave, feeling like Black history is only connected to slavery or oppression in general.

“Not only is it entertaining, and it’s hysterical, but it also is an important program for our country right now. We hope to make people laugh and learn a bit too,” Hart said in a statement to Variety.

Not much information on the show is available right now, but it sounds like it will be similar to the Drunk History series where educators and other history buffs tell rare, factual stories about America’s founding fathers, after drinking all night.
