John Singleton‘s latest television venture is sure to turn some heads when it debuts on BET in March.

Rebel will focus on the life of an African-American woman police officer who is going through an Internal Affairs investigation. The officer, who the show is named after, left the police force after she shot her own partner to prevent them from shooting her brother.

The official synopsis reads:

REBEL  is an extraordinary take on the seminal police drama that examines the unique and conflicted relationship officers of color have with their jobs – at a time when police forces are rife with brutality and misconduct.

BET’s all new drama series, is here to break down the unique and conflicted relationship officers of color have with their jobs when matters hit close to home.

The drama takes a look at Oakland police officer Rebecca “Rebel” Cole. She has always excelled by playing by the rules. She has always known that she must be better and smarter on the job because she is both Black and female. After her brother is slain by police, Rebel soon becomes disillusioned with the system and is forced to take matters into her own hands and become a private investigator and a champion for her community. Caught between family loyalty and the fraternity in blue, Rebel’s actions set in motion a cause-and-effect crisis that can’t be undone.

The show comes at a time where the relationship between Black people and law enforcement is as tattered as ever. Expect plenty of debates after this show hits the air.

Rebel will be played by Danielle Moné Truitt and will also star Giancarlo Esposito and Method Man, who prefers to be called Cliff Smith when acting.

Rebel debuts on Tuesday, March 28th at 9 p.m.
