Budding actor Jay Bowdy ended his own life on Facebook Live earlier this week, sparking dialogue about mental illness and social media etiquette.

On Monday, the 33-year old actor logged onto Facebook Live and told those who were watching that he was about to commit suicide. Before he committed the act, he shared details of his life that seemed to be weighing him down.

Bowdy revealed that he became a father for the first time at age 18 and raised two during his time in college. Later, he said that he fathered four more kids including the two he had with his wife, who he married at age 25.

Reports also state Bowdy worked as a high school teacher and coach in Texas before he moved to California. The Los Angeles Times writes that he once pursued a career in basketball, but injuries prevented him from playing overseas.

When he arrived in California he began work as an exotic dancer in Hollywood. He was later offered a role in a small budget film. From there he decided to pursue a career in acting.

Bowdy appeared in a handful of films according to his IMDB profile. His most recent appearance was in the 2016 comedy Prepper.

Police records have revealed that Bowdy was recently arrested last Thursday for suspicion of sexual assault. He was released the next day after posting $100,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department. He was not charged with a crime.

Video of Bowdy’s suicide was spread online before Facebook removed the link.
