One of your favorite actors just went off script and suggested that we “embrace” Donald Trump.

While celebrities and other Americans may mean well when they make suggestions like “give Trump a shot” or take meetings with him at the Trump Tower, most Americans are not very open to the idea. So when actor Matthew McConaughey decided to express his views about working with the President while he’s in office, people naturally went for his throat.

In an interview with BBC, the Academy Award-winning actor was asked about Trump and he said:

“He’s our president…And it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years. So, even those who most strongly may disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — which is another thing, we’ll see what he does compared to what he had said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be. Because he’s our president for the next four years. At least.”

To McConaughey’s defense, he never actually said that it’s time to embrace Trump or even that he supported him. Rather, he says that people should accept the fact that he’s in office and find ways to work with him, if you want to.

Of course, saying anything short of “F*ck Donald Trump” gets interpreted as support. So, within seconds of this quote getting out, McConaughey is feeling the fire from a Twitter roast. But hey, at least Stacy Dash is supporting him.

As for everyone else, not so much.
