Donald Trump‘s ride-or-die Black friend Omarosa Manigault has a controversy to distract you from the real controversies in the White House.

Earlier this week it was reported that the former The Apprentice contestant and current White House communications official got into a spat with a longtime Washington, D.C. reporter. Journalist April Ryan accused Omarosa of “physically intimidating” her and even claimed that Omarosa said she was keeping dossiers on journalists suspected of being anti-Trump.

Now, Omarosa is combating those reports saying she has it all on tape. She played parts of the tape for reporters and said, “[Ryan] came in [to the White House press-staff area] hot. She came in with an attitude. For her to characterize me as the bully — I’m so glad we have this tape … because it’s ‘liar, liar, pants on fire.’”

Ryan immediately accused Omarosa of editing the tape in her favor. But now, people are wondering how she even got the tape and if what she’s doing is illegal. Ryan says she didn’t know that she was being recorded, while Omarosa claims that all journalists know that they are being taped whenever they have are in the White House press room because everything is “on the record.”

Washington, D.C.’s “one consent” laws state that recording is allowed if at least one person knows they are being recorded. Veteran journalists from the area say this is common knowledge but interviews are rarely taped without the journalist knowing as well.

But this is 2017 in the Trump Administration. Rules don’t seem to apply to them.
