Pharrell Williams has broken down a barrier for men who love bags. He is the first man to be featured in a Chanel bag campaign.

The well-respected creative stars in a commercial for the brand’s Gabrielle bag. In it, Pharrell is seen acting like a child at play in an empty rehearsal hall doing everything from riding wheeled toolboxes to scaling light fixtures. At the end of the commercial, he is greeted by an applauding child who reveals he has “Gabrielle” written inside of his palm.

This appears to be the first look from a partnership between Pharrell and Chanel that was announced back in March. Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld spotted Pharrell wearing the brand at a fashion show in Paris last year which is what prompted him to want to work with the producer. In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, he says he enlisted Pharrell to show that the bag could be worn in “many different circumstances” and to show that it was “not very feminine.”

Men in Hip-Hop have been infatuated with bags for some time now. MCM and Gucci have been favorites for decades. Goyard has recently gained popularity as well with Fabolous and Lil Uzi Vert managing to get a hit song out of their track “Goyard Bag.” Future recently dropped a luxury bag at his pop-up shop in New York City last year.
