Kodak Black Sentenced To 1 Year In Prison, Could Be Released In A Month

Kodak Black has been sentenced to a year in prison for a parole violation. However, under the right circumstances the rapper could be released in about a month.

Reports the Sun-Sentinel:

“Depending on the outcome of this, it could be the beginning of my career, or the end of my career,” said the rapper, addressing Judge Michael Lynch.

Shortly after, Lynch announced to a full-to-capacity courtroom he would be giving the 19-year-old, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, another chance to make good.

Octave had been facing the potential maximum of eight years in state prison, as the Broward state attorney’s office was requesting. Instead, Lynch sentenced him to 364 days in the county jail.

Kodak’s fans and record label need to send that judge a thank you card. Also, the year-long sentence can be cut down significantly.

Lynch decided that with the completion of a life skills course, the sentence would be shortened to 180 days. When and if that happens, Octave would also get credit for the total amount of time he’s already spent in jail — even before this most recent stretch — in connection with the two cases that triggered this entire situation to begin with.

Because that time served adds up to close to 180 days, he would’ve served the shortened sentence — and would be released.

However, if Kodak does get out early, he’ll still be under house arrest for a year and on probation for five years.

Kodak traveling without permission from his parole officer is what got him into this specific mess. He is still facing sexual assault charges in South Carolina, too.
