Now here’s a trend we can get used to. Grime star Stormzy gifted Oxford University student Fiona Asiedu 9,000 pounds to complete her master’s degree en route to Harvard University in the United States.

Asiedu managed to raise a large portion of the 59,000 pounds needed to make the move to Harvard to cover classes and living expenses as she enters the famed institution’s Graduate School of Education. She launched a Crowdfunder site, asking for 12,000 pounds to reach her goal. She has since passed her goal and is now hoping to use surplus funds to help other students like her live out their collegiate dreams via a foundation.

The Mirror writes:

Stormzy saw Fiona’s request when a friend of the student’s sent him a tweet asking if he’d be able to help with the fundraising – Stormzy replied by not only retweeting the appeal but also dipping into his own pocket.

Although it appears he tried to remain incognito, pledging his £9,000 under an anonymous name, it was clear to Fiona who her mystery donor was and she couldn’t be more grateful.

Fiona’s thrilled friend, who shared the initial Crowdfunding link online, reached out to Stormzy with an offer of thanks he couldn’t refuse – dinner for two at Nando’s!

“Let me take you to Nando’s for a thank you chicken because this is all you,” she told Stormzy, after Fiona confirmed she’d reached her fundraising target.

“Deal!” he replied.

Nicki Minaj has seemingly inspired artists to open up their pockets to the next generation so hopefully, this will continue with others.
