Another One: Tulsa Cop Betty Shelby Will Not Go To Jail For Killing Terrence Crutcher
In unsurprising news, killer cop Betty Shelby will not go to jail for killing unarmed motorist Terrence Crutcher.Oklahoma’s News On 6 reports that a jury found Shelby not guilty of first-degree manslaughter.
Last September Shelby was caught on camera shooting Crutcher dead. Crutcher was stranded on the side of the road after having car trouble. Shelby was on her way to another dispatch when she saw Crutcher on the side of the road.
It was at that moment Crutcher suddenly became a criminal or as audio footage from dashcam and helicopter video revealed, a “big bad dude” as described by police. Shelby says that she told Crutcher numerous times to stay still with his hands up. Crutcher can be seen standing and walking with his hands up. Crutcher then decided to reach back into his car for something. It was then that Shelby shot him dead,
Shelby testified that she feared for her life, even though video shows she was clearly far enough from him to be out any real danger. She also said, “I did everything I could to stop this. Crutcher’s death is his fault.”
The trial for Shelby last about a week. The jury reached their decision after nine hours of deliberation. During the deliberations, Shelby’s legal team pushed for a mistrial but that was denied. Reports say that once the jury handed in their verdict and heard it read, they started crying. Crutcher’s family started crying as well as Shelby’s attorney. Shelby herself did not and was quietly escorted out of the courtroom.
Protesters took to the streets as they usually do when things like this happen. No word on if Shelby will be returned to duty.
