Fergie has been the featured vocalist of The Black Eyed Peas for years and contributed to the Hip-Hop and pop band’s biggest hits in its 20-year existence. The singer has left the group and is embarking on a solo project and planning to release her first record in 11 years.

Ahlan! exclusively reports:

We spoke to The Black Eyed Peas (will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap) ahead of their concert at the opening ceremony of the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff. Sadly, yes, Fergie has left the band. will.i.am explained the situation to us: “Since the beginning of Black Eyed Peas, we’ve always had amazing vocalists that appeared on the mic with us. People like Macy Gray, Esthero, Debi Nova, Fergie. On Elephunk, there were several females that appeared on that album. Obviously Fergie was the featured female, but on songs like Lets Get it Started, it’s Noelle (Scaggs), and then Fergie, songs like Latin Girls, it’s Debi Nova, and Request Line, it’s Macy Gray. We’ll always work with good females.”

According to will.i.am., the band won’t be replacing Fergie with another vocalist but are opening the floor to work with others as they each move ahead onto new creative projects. And it appears will.i.am. is confirming that the Dutchess is still team BEP.

It’s amazing that Fergie would leave a gig she’s held down and ate well off for 15 years to embark on a solo venture in this stiff climate. Even more shocking is that people care about this.
