Regina King is no stranger to the big screen but it seems turning a Rap classic into a film might be her newest endeavor. The True Crime actress is reportedly working on a Hip-Hopera remake of Dana Dane’s 1987 song “Cinderfella”.

According to TMZ, the pair have completed the script and are currently scouting for actors. There is already talk that Ice Cube might be involved in some capacity.

In “Cinderfella” the story takes place in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and Dana Dane is poorly treated by his step family. Luckily his fairy godfather Herb, 1980’s super producer Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor, levels him up with a silk suit, Kangol, fresh Bally shoes and a Volvo so he can woo the princess at the ball. Peep the original here:

For those not aware, Dana Dane was an original member of the Kangol Crew with Slick Rick. His debut album Dana Dane with Fame also spawned the hit “Nightmares” which has been name checked by the likes of Jay Z and Snoop Dogg.
