RZA shared his thoughts on “mumble rap” and they may not be what you expect.

Seeing as how RZA of Wu-Tang Clan is one of the faces of 90’s Golden Era East Coast Hip-Hop, you would probably assume that he is a card-carrying member of the “old head” or “get off my lawn” crew. However, the innovative rapper/producer/filmmaker has love for anybody that’s out here creating, even the artists accused of making “mumble rap.”

In an interview with Montreality, RZA spoke on the new generation of rappers and the unfair label they have been given.

“Music is music,” he says, comparing tastes in music to differences in diet. “We don’t discriminate. I don’t eat meat, but you can go ahead and eat your own meat if you want. [We] can coexist.”

He continued, “First of all, what is mumble rap, who made that title? I bet you the guys who’s doing it, they didn’t call it mumble rap. That’s what the media calls it. Let them make their music and have fun and do their thing.”

RZA did warn the younger rappers to stay off the syrup though, because that does make you mumble. Ghostface joked that the syrup leads to hit records though. Watch the entire interview where the crew including Raekwon and U-God share their fondest Prodigy moments as well.
