Saying that President Donald Trump is an embarrassment to the highest office in the land is, in short, putting it mildly. The man has been a consistent boor and a walking punchline, but who knew that the Commander-In-Chief would also be the world’s most notable Twitter troll?

Trump’s Twitter attack on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough was deplorable, and even members of the president’s party found the remarks disgusting. Like a child, Trump probably knows better but refuses to do so because of his outsized ego and lack of couth. These aren’t declarations made out of thin air. From his presidential campaign to his currently troubled run as POTUS, Captain Cheeto has proven himself to be petulant.

President Barack Obama, who has moved on excellently in life, commanded respect by way of his grace, demeanor and political stances. While President Obama was not flawless in all he did, Obama and the First Family as a whole showed and left behind a shining example that could be easily adopted with media training and the hiring of proper staff. And, get this, no silly ham-handed tweets!

Well before he took office as the 45th President of the United States, the Orange Overlord of Chaos has exhibited many times over that he’s cursed with an incurable case of Twitter fingers. Listing the offenses is moot as the evidence is longstanding, but the latest missives from President Trump are appalling. This is a 71-year-old man who has the emotional — and perhaps literal — intelligence of a pimply-faced teen emboldened by keyboard courage and a limited but largely acerbic vocabulary.

The country went from a Harvard University Law School graduate, proud family man, devoted patriot, and skilled diplomat to a pig-headed and insensitive bully who insists on treating his Twitter account like a comments section. Every unbaked thought, every lame attempt at a clap back, and the absence of humility in the face of scandal signals this man is not unlike the trolls who search the Internet for a topic to offer commentary nobody asked for or cares about.

Next time you have the misfortune of greeting an all-out Trump supporter, turn to them and say, “Congratulations, you finally got the president you deserve.”

For the rest of us, 2020 can’t get here soon enough.
