After a disappointing pre-season debut followed by an OK encore, Lonzo Ball finally had his breakout summer league game and officially put Big Baller Brand on the map with a 36 point, 11 assist, and 8 rebound performance last night. Unfortunately, he did so while rocking a pair of Kobe Bryant Nike signature sneakers.
After his father went out of his way to alienate every single major sneaker brand (even And 1 said “chiiilll”) and became the butt of everyone’s joke when he put out his own signature sneaker the ZO2 at the tune of a mere $495, everyone expected Lonzo to ride or die in his daddy’s ill-conceived baby.
Well, LeBron happened to be at the game and took notice of Lonzo’s sudden change of kicks and went to his IG to throw a tad bit of shade on the Baller family with a simple caption: “Just. Do. It.”
While Lavar Ball has become the most polarizing loving father in sports history, Lonzo’s quiet as kept personality has kept him endeared in the hearts of many basketball fans.
But after his Hip-Hop hiccup opinion on Jay-Z’s latest album and now this, expect social media to begin to have fun with his every misstep.
Lonzo’s choice of footwear caused some to speculate that Lonzo was on his way to Nike, but Lavar threw cold water on that theory when he spoke to ESPN saying, “Lonzo is not forced to wear any brand and can play in any shoe he wants as long as it’s OK with the NBA.”
We know daddy has to be a little disappointed and somewhat embarrassed but hey, at least he wasn’t meeting with Russians.
