Police brutality, abuse, and civil rights violations are nothing new. Annapurna Pictures film Detroit serves as a stark reminder of that.

Based on the true story of the Algiers Motel Incident of 1967, Detroit shines a light on the long forgotten racially charged 12th Street Riot. During which, a Detroit Police Department riot task force murdered three Black teenagers and severely beating and abusing nine others including two white females and seven Black men.

While charges were filed against all the participating police officers, well, you can guess the outcome.

Starring John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Will Pouter (The Revenant), Detroit is set to hit theaters on August 4. Watch the final trailer below.
