Disney is going hard with the live-action adaptations of their animated movie library. Just months after announcing that Donald Glover was cast to play Simba in their upcoming film The Lion King, their latest project, Aladdin, has just gotten underway and the film’s star Will Smith took the moment to share his excitement on Facebook.

Posing with the film’s leads Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, the Suicide Squad star who’s slated to take on the role of Genie seems more than happy that filming has commenced at Longcross Studios outside of London.

Written by John August (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory), and directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes), Aladdin is the love story of a street urchin named Aladdin who finds fighting off an evil wizard named Jafar who not only wants the magical lamp that’s in Aladdin’s possession, but also the princess for whom Al’s heart pines, Jasmine.

We just wonder if DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince are going to be featured on the soundtrack to Aladdin.

Aladdin is slated to release sometime in 2018.
