Is the political game ready for a legit Hip-Hop artist/rapper turned elected official? We don’t know about them but we sure as hell are.

According to NJ.com Dupre “DoItAll” Kelly of the OG Hip-Hop crew Lords Of The Underground has announced that he’s running for Newark’s Councilman-At-Large spot in next year’s May election.

Speaking to dozens of supporters outside of his childhood home in Newark’s West Ward, Kelly told the crowd “It’s neighborhoods like this that I’m running for… Most of us have given up the power of the ballot. I’m running because I want to encourage my neighbors to take back that power.”

We mean, if Kid “Confederate Lover” Rock can run for senate in his hometown, why can’t Kelly run for the city council in his?

At the moment the “Chief Rocka” rapper is the CEO of the Newark based media production and event planning company 211 Media Group. We’re sure with the kind of passion he’s demonstrated for his neighborhood he’ll hold it down for the culture should he win the election.

“In this community, we haven’t always made the best choice, but when people love their city, they can change it.”

Preach!
