Sterling K. Brown, one of the stars of NBC‘s hit show This Is Us, took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy, the first time a Black actor has done so in nearly two decades. Brown’s exuberant acceptance speech was unfortunately cut off, but he managed to highlight both his joy and reverence for the craft of acting all the same.

Brown was delightfully turned up as he accepted his award, adding to his Emmy haul after winning for his role as Christopher Darden in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story last year. Brown thanked his fellow This Is Us castmates, calling them the “best white TV family that a brother has ever had”  and shouting out his fellow lead actor Emmy nominees, saying he remains a fan of their work first and foremost. Pretty classy stuff from Brown.
