We’re not going to use that same Kanye West quote, but you know it. adidas has soared past Jordan Brand to become the no. 2 sneaker brand in the United States behind Nike.

According to the NPD group, and as reported by Matt Powell, adidas’ footwear sales now hold down 13% of the sneaker market in the States. That’s enough to place the brand ahead of Jordan.

While JB is still closely affiliated with Nike despite being a standalone brand, this is nevertheless a major win for the 3 Stripes.

There are plenty of theories as to why. In June, Forbes reported that Nike sales were down, while adidas’ were up. The latter saw steady sales bump from its Originals line of retro kicks. The brand’s Boost cushioning technology, which is featured in popular models like the NMD and Kanye West’s sneaker line also helped.

Another note worth mentioning, older sneakerheads will remember when adidas was King, and Nike was the brand on the come up—before this rookie named Michael Jordan came in and changed the game.
