A heavily armed white, male gunman perched in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas fired on musical festival attendees. Over 50 concertgoers were killed and over 200 were injured in the aftermath.

This is already the worst mass-casualty shooting in American history, and the numbers will likely go up.

Reports the New York Times:

A gunman firing from a Las Vegas hotel rained a rapid-fire barrage on a huge outdoor concert festival on Sunday night, sending thousands of people fleeing until SWAT units found and killed him. More than 50 victims died, and at least 200 others were wounded, officials said, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history.

Online video of the attack outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino showed the singer Jason Aldean performing outside at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a three-day country music event, interrupted by the sound of automatic gunfire. The music stopped, and concertgoers ducked for cover. “Get down,” one shouted. “Stay down,” screamed another.

The gunman has been identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev. and he was killed by police after lawmen breached the door of his hotel room.

He was a terrorist, don’t let anyone tell you different.

Reportedly over 400 people were transferred to hospitals.

Twitter has been active since the shooting with reports of bravery and people offering condolences and prayers.

This story is developing.
